Additional Details:

  • 01 - This fossil is remarkably well preserved because you can see not only the bone structure but also the more delicate parts such as the fins and tail.
  • 02 - It is already rare enough to find a fossil of bones and other remnants of animals, but to find a footprint is even more rare.
  • 03 - Here is a more "standard" fossil because it is made up of the hard parts of the animal in question - in this case, a turtle.  This kind of fossil proves that organisms such as certain species of turtle have not changed much for millions of years.
  • 04 - This is a life-sized model of a dinosaur set up in an open-air museum in the south of France.
  • 05 - This photo shows a plaster cast reproduction of the famous fossil "Archaeopteryx" which is the missing link between dinosaurs and birds.  This fossil has characteristics of both dinosaurs and birds (notice the feathers).  The original fossil is in the Museum of Natural History in London.
