To be as scientific about this experiment as possible, we will not only measure the mass of the water (25 g) but we will also measure the mass of the nut.  That's not easy because very often when trying to put it on the mounted needle (see photo at right), the nut breaks.  If that happens, we need to start all over again.  One way to avoid that problem is to first weigh the mounted needle then put the nut on.  Be careful when doing this - it is better to push the needle downwards into the nut rather than trying to push the nut on the needle.  If you slip or the nut breaks, it will jab the table rather than your hand!
